ADVOCATE Award presented to Professor Terry Atkinson

The ADVOCATE award was presented to Professor Terry Atkinson, PhD College of Education at East Carolina University. Atkinson was given the award for spearheading the Imagination Library Kindergarten Impact Study at ECU.

The study will help insure that families who might benefit most from Imagination Library (IL) are enrolled, to identify and promote evidence-based reading practices that will enhance the value of IL, and to evaluate the impact of these initiatives on student language/literacy skills at kindergarten entry.

“Terry’s commitment to the Early Literacy Coalition and the Imagination Library make her a most appropriate recipient of this year’s Advocate Excellence award,” said Jim Cieslar, Executive Director (UWPC). “Her team’s assessment of the impact of IL is a critical component of the Early Literacy Coalition’s efforts to ensure that all children enter school ready to learn.”
