ABOUT
The Early Grades Student Success Academy (EGSSA), operated by United Way of Pitt County, provides targeted academic support to children. Serving elementary students across Pitt County, EGSSA invites students to attend high-quality after-school and summer programming that strengthens reading, math, and science achievement while intentionally developing skills such as collaboration, perseverance, and self-confidence.
Through small-group, standards-aligned instruction paired with engaging STEAM enrichment, wellness activities, and strong partnerships with Pitt County Schools and community organizations—including East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine—EGSSA delivers measurable academic growth, improves attendance, and helps close opportunity gaps for children in Title I schools.

SUPPORT EGSSA
Our program is able to continue providing these educational activities to our local youth by the generous donations given by community members. These go directly to providing class activity materials and enrichment tools for the students, which benefit to student success within and outside of the classroom. Contributions of all sizes are fundamental to further actualizing our vision of students reaching their full potential.
$5/mo - Provides one (1) student with a monthly STEAM experience (science experiments, robotics exploration, engineering, etc.).
$15/mo - Provides a STEAM experience for up to thirty (30) students.
$25/mo - Covers software licenses or digital tools for a student group for the entire academic year.
$50/mo - Fully funds all materials and activities for one (1) student for an entire academic year.
WHAT'S NEW
Our EGSSA team will be headed Teaching Prevention 2026: Leading and Learning in a Changing World in Savannah, GA on April 19-21. The team will be presenting "It’s Elementary: Resident Physicians Teaching K-5 Students About Health" to a wide array of education program leaders.
