Caller Story:  Veteran Facing Eviction
One of our veterans in Greensboro experienced a financial hardship which caused him to fall short on his rent and was facing eviction.  He contacted a few local agencies that he thought could help, only to be informed that they were out of funds and suggested that he call United Way 2-1-1.  He didn’t know what to expect when he called.  He had many nice things to say when the call center staff followed up with him as the assistance he received from the Saint Vincent DePaul Society prevented eviction.  He also said that he felt so honored when he told the agent that he was a veteran and the agent thanked him for his service.  That act of kindness and recognition made his day.

Fast Fact:  According to a 2012 study by the CDC, 8.2% of all homeless individuals reported that they were veterans.
